EXPERIENCE AND LEADERSHIP THAT MATTERS

Matthew Marchant was elected Mayor of Carrollton on May 14, 2011, receiving 65% of the votes cast.  Matthew puts family and faith first in his life and is a devoted husband and father.  He enjoys coaching and cheering his daughters in soccer and basketball and riding bikes as a family on the Furneaux Creek Greenbelt. 

City Service

First elected to the Carrollton City Council in 2002, Matthew was re-elected in 2003, 2006 and 2008.  Prior to his election to the City Council, Matthew served on Carrollton's Development Ordinance Advisory Commission.  He has also served in following roles:  Chairman of the Redevelopment Subcommittee, member of the Transit Oriented Development Subcommittee, member of the Carrollton Festival at the Switchyard Subcommittee, member of the Audit and Finance Committee, and member of the Judicial Committee. 
 
Matthew represents Carrollton and Farmers Branch as a voting member of the Regional Transportation Council, a 43 member board that sets transportation policy, funding and priorities for the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  

Background and Education

A lifetime resident of the Carrollton area, Matthew attended CFB-ISD schools and graduated from Trinity Christian Academy in 1994.  He attended college at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in 1998.  Matthew continued his studies at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas, where he earned his Law Degree in December, 2000.  He is also a graduate of Leadership Metrocrest, Class XXI.
 
Professional Career

From September of 2000 until the fall of 2002, Matthew served as president of Hobart Development, Inc., a local real estate company.  In September of 2002 Matthew joined the law firm of Strasburger & Price, LLP, where he is now a partner and continues to practice as a real estate and finance attorney.  Matthew has been selected as a Texas Rising Star in Real Estate Law by Texas Monthly magazine and Texas Super Lawyers – Rising Stars Edition, in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
 
Personal

Matthew married his college sweetheart, Lindsay, in 2000 and is the proud father of two daughters, ages 4 and 7.  Lindsay is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and received her Masters Degree in American History from the University of North Texas.  She taught at Carrollton Christian Academy and is now a full-time mom and the administrator of an online retail business.  The family attends First Baptist Church of Carrollton regularly and is proud to be raising their children in Carrollton.
